Today was a great day for meeting people along the way. As it turns out doing a single stage like many of the hikers, I got see many of the same faces and seems I stumbled across many English speakers from Norway, Holland, Netherlands and Germany. I'm staying at a old convent tonight and got to have my anniversary dinner with Jän and Eva along with Pépe who is doing the Camino in reverse on his horse. A guy asked him if he rode all the time and Pépe said "no, we take turns" the guy said "do you carry him?" and Pépe said "no, it not an equal partnership." Cute...
The trail today was up and rocky for a bit. Hike-a-bike several times today, but wasn't as stressful because I knew I didn't need to go as far. The trail went along Sound of Music fields and pastures do a long way and then turned steeply downhill with a few hairaising rocky sections, but I made it by 11:30am and just went into town where I ran into a German couple I had met the day before. We had a great time talking and they told me about this great vegetarian restaurant in San Francisco called Greens. It was one of those Camino moments. I told them I was freiends with Annie Sommerville the Executive chef there.
All-all, a very nice day. I'm going to do another single stage tomorrow so I'll probably continue the relationships with the same group.
As you do this journey, you get grateful for small simple things. Having a bed at night, having clean clothes, having food to eat, good weather...nice conversations with people. Somehow these simple things are worth a lot.
Amazing views of fields and mountains along the way
