Well... I have been blessed and now am baptized on the Camino. Today was harder than I thought it would be due to really muddy up and down trails. I came to a couple streams and plowed right through them to rinse off my tires. I came to a water chute with concrete on the bottom where the water was about 6" deep and running fast. My ego got the best of me... I started plowing thru at a fast pace and the moss on the bottom took my bike right out from under me. Water was running fast around me and I was most worried about all my electronic stuff in my bags; phone, Nikon camera, iPad. It took me a minute to get my bike out of the water and a group of about 10 Parisians were trying to help and make sure I was ok. After I got out and they saw I was fine, they had a good laugh; le douche, le douche, they exclaimed! Anyway, I have had my baptism on the Camino. I made it to Pamplona late this afternoon after lunching in a small town called Zubiri. Today was cool in that the trail took us through a few small towns that were pretty quaint. The trail down to Zubiri was really muddy, steep and rocky and was a bit scary riding down with all the weight on my bike. My bike had so much mud caked everywhere that I stripped all the packs off and threw it in the river to get all the mud out if the gears and out of all the moving parts. Pamplona is nice and the Camino goes right through the old section of town, but it weird being in a big city. I much prefer the countryside and small towns. I went into a big cathedral here and oddly enough, there was a big extended family there getting a newborn baptized! ;-)
I probably passed 100 Pilgrims today, a few which I had talked with prior. I passed Macaroon girls this morning and chatted for a few minutes. They commented on the fact I didn't have to worry about blisters biking and I said I did, but not in the same places! ;-)
Buen Baptism
