Tapas y Tapas...

  Today's ride started out nice out of Estrella. I love riding early in the morning when it's cool out. I ride slow just to experience the Camino and wake up a bit. Today's ride went though some olive groves and and oak forest and for half the morning was predominantly downhill. There were some nice wide sections as well that you could see the trail for a long ways ahead. You even pass by Irache winery where the have two spigots for pilgrims. One for water and the other for wine...It was too early in the morning ;-)

  Today I chatted with a few Pilgrims along the way. Keith was from New York and lived in Harlem. He taught Spanish history at a private school and had been looking forward to doing the Camino for years and was finally on it. Bud was an older retired Navy seaman and lived in Cambria California. We talked a bit about the Central Coast since I have a place near there. I met Chris and Jenny from Sacramento who I had dinner with last night and we said our goodbyes as I was doing more than they were today. We exchanged emails.

  I delayed lunch and rode as much as possible before it got hot and there were some uphill sections that you just melt on in the heat. I'm in Logroño, a larger town but I'm staying in the old historical part. This place had Tapas like you wouldn't believe. I went out walking about 3pm and came across a section of Tapas bars one after the other. They all try and out do each othe with exotic tapas. Add wine or beer and you have a meal. I'm looking forward to partaking tonight even though I cheated and had an order with a glass of rosé this afternoon.

 It's interesting doing the Camino a second time. I remember certain places and even conversations I had with people last time. It was like, oh yeah I met that girl from Australia here and she was waiting for a green card to get married to her American boyfriend. I also flashed back on Ruth Anne Koccur who recently passed in December. We met a few years ago at Rancho la Puerta. She was and adventure traveler and we had talked about doing the Camino. We instead decided on going to Guatemala back in 2014. My thoughts were with her for a while today.

  Buen Camino;
