I met a few people today; Molly is a seasonal ranger at Joshua Tree, Mike is studying geography with the thought of becoming a cartographer. I met Miguel along the Way. He is from Galcia provence in Spain and making his way on the Camino. He stopped today out in the countryside and plays music for pilgrims for donations to fund his journey. He played Jefferson Airplane's "Don't you need somebody to love" for me and I left him a couple € and wished him a Buen Camino.
I'm staying the night in Santo Domingo de la Calzada tonight and feeling the weeks of riding daily. I don't really want to spend a rest day here, so maybe just put in a short day tomorrow.
They have a pretty impressive cathedral here. Apparently Saint Dominic was a local monk who did some impressive things around the year 1,000. There seems to be some story of a pilgrim who was hung mistakenly so and the Pilgram came to life. Anyway a chicken was involved who also came to life so now they actually have a live chicken that lives in the cathedral.
I went though a town today that I blogged about 3 years ago. It was a modern day ghost town. A bunch of modern houses and condos that were deserted due to the economy here. It was really creepy. I went though the town again today and some people have started living there. I would guess about its only 20% occupied, but some life about. It was still kinda creepy.
I want to wish a Happy Birthday to Barry today who told me about the Camino back before I did it in 2013. Buen Camino Barry! Sorry to miss your party man. Thanks for everything.
I was careful today.
Buen Camino
Dave
