Doing the Camino for credit...

I always knew that when you finished the Camino and presented your credential, that your past sins would be forgiven; but now I find out you can get college credit as well! Sign me up. I passed a group of 10 students and two professors from Pepperdine University in Southern California today. They are doing the Camino as a group and getting college credit as the professors and telling them about Spanish and Camino history along the Way. Talk about double dipping!

Well, forget about an easy short day. I ended up in Burgos, a large city with a historical center and a UNESCO heritage designated cathedral. I ended up doing about 50 miles of trail today even with a bit of a late start. The last step, there was a big climb and some of it unrideable due to either trail conditions or steepness . It just reminded me that the relative ease of  wide flat trails this morning can quickly change, but then a beautiful ride for a few miles through a tree and fern forest.

I toured the cathedral, something I didn't do last time since it was raining here. It's a bit of medieval mystery house with chapels added on by each new bishop or ruler of the provence. There must be 20 seperately chapels build over time under the roof and added on to the sides. It started out around 1020 and continued on through the Rennisance.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention just two little things. I kept feeling something in my helmet. After about 10 minutes I stopped and took it off. A stunned bee was in it. Fortunately it was still stunned and no stings. The second problem is more serious. My bike rack that holds my bags on, cracked on one of the sides. Still sort of works but I'm afraid of more serious cracks or breakage along with the possibility of the broken part going into my spokes on a bumpy section. Yikes! There are no bike shops open to try and replace it as it's Sunday here. I have an idea how to jury rig a fix but need a piece of metal and super glue. Again, no shops open. May have to delay a ride tomorrow but really looking forward to the next town where I had a grateful experience last time I did this. Patience may be called for, but not my long suit.

Buen Camino
